Delta police this week closed the book on a more than two-year investigation with the arrest of a convicted sex offender.
On Monday, Delta police arrested George Ross Wilcox, 54, in the area of 152 Street and 104 Avenue in Surrey.
"Mr. Wilcox was arrested on an outstanding extradition warrant and transported to Delta police headquarters where he was held pending his first court appearance in the British Columbia Supreme Court," said Delta police spokesperson Const. Ciaran Feenan.
Wilcox is wanted in Arizona for failing to appear for sentencing.
In 2009, Wilcox, a former Calgary resident, was set to go to trial in Pima County, Arizona on four counts of sexual contact with a minor under 15 after he repeatedly molested his quadriplegic stepson between July 2007 and January 2008. He failed to appear in court during the trial and in his absence was convicted on two of the four counts.
Since then, several police agencies have been searching for him.
The case was featured on the America's Most Wanted website.
"In October 2009, the Delta Police Department became aware that Mr. Wilcox, who is a Canadian citizen, might have returned to Canada," Feenan said. "Delta police investigated several leads, culminating in Mr. Wilcox's arrest."
Delta police investigators will continue to work with the Department of Justice as the extradition process continues.
"We are certainly pleased that Mr. Wilcox has been taken into custody due to the continuous efforts of our investigators," said Delta police chief Jim Cessford. "No matter how long an investigation takes, the Delta police are committed to investigating every incident fully, and will continue to ensure public safety by following up on tips by concerned citizens."
