Delta police have been called into investigate after a teen was injured while she was arrested by Prince Rupert RCMP.

"Delta police major crimes investigators are responding to Prince Rupert, B.C., at the request of the RCMP in relation to an investigation where a 15-year-old female sustained injuries during an arrest," said Delta police spokesperson Const. Ciaran Feenan.

Feenan said the investigative team was scheduled to arrive in Prince Rupert early Thursday morning and take over the investigation.

On April 4, local RCMP attended to a home in Prince Rupert after a report that a 15-year-old girl in the house wanted to harm herself. The attending officers confirmed that the girl was upset and wanted to take her own life and apprehended her under the Mental Health Act.

"She was then also arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer," Feenan said.

The girl was injured during the course of the arrest and was taken to hospital for medial attention where it was determined that she suffered a broken arm.

Feenan said Delta was asked on Wednesday to take over the investigation. The department has notified the Office of the Police Complaints Commissioner that Delta has taken over the investigation.

"It is not anticipated that additional information will be released until the investigation has concluded," he said.
