This October the Delta Pride Society hopes to spread appreciation for how far the LGBTQ+ movement has come by looking at it through a historical lens.
To get the word out, the society is hosting a pride history themed contest with two possible prizes. The first is a basket from Four Winds Brewery and the second is made up of two locally handmade items, a pride coloured hoodie from Do or Dye Customs and a mug from Treasure Trove Gifts.
Instructions to enter the contest are posted on the Delta Pride Society’s Facebook page with winners to be announced Nov.1.
Christa Horita Kadach, member of the Delta Pride Society, explained the importance of remembering those who made advances for the LGBTQ+ community during their time.
“I think everybody who came before this era has had some sort of impact on fighting for LGBTQ rights and visibility," Kadach said.
Kadach hopes people come away from pride history month with a comprehensive view of the role LGBTQ+ people played in history and additional context for the accomplishments, rights and changes of laws in more recent history.
“I think pride history months means something to remember and to be celebratory of our beautiful LGBTQ community,” she said. “Just looking at the hope that has come in the most recent years and that it will help us pursue it and keep going.”
