The City of Delta has issued a request for bids for the reconstruction of the existing Ferry Road Boat Launch, located at the north end of Ferry Road.

According to the city, the existing concrete ramp and floating dock section are approaching the end of their service life and complete replacement is required.

A consultant has come up with a design and technical specifications.

The work will include removal of the existing boat ramp and associated features, installation of a larger boat ramp and rip-rap protection, dredging, as well as an extension of the float to increase boat capacity.

The existing boat launch is approximately 15-metres-wide, and the floating timber dock is approximately 42-metres-long and laterally held in place using four creosoted timber piles.

The city also notes that, recognizing that the project is being undertaken within the tidal influence zone for the Fraser River, approval from the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the provincial Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship have been obtained.

However, those approvals only have the period of Nov. 1, 2024 to Jan. 31, 2025 as the window of opportunity to undertake and complete the reconstruction project.

Any opportunity to extend works past the Jan. 31, 2025 date is not available.
