Let’s head back to August 1964 when the 18th Harvest Festival was held in Ladner.
The event featured a parade with a float by the Delta-Ladner Rod and Gun Club taking first prize. It featured a silver and blue boat with a leaping fish.
The Delta Soccer Association’s float won second prize and the float by the Delta Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion won third.
Honorable mentions went to floats by the Ladner Rotary Club and Delta Fire Department.
The festival included many other events including a $20 prize in a Beatles lip synching contest, which had a boy’s and a girl’s category.
Margaret Burnett was crowned Harvest Queen that year.
