You may have seen odd, death-defying feats from a logger at a local hotel in February 1971.
This photo shows Gary Johnson doing a headstand atop an 80-foot pole as he started his training for logger sports at the Town & Country Motor Inn.
Johnson, a competitive logger who had been climbing for four years, did his act atop the pole which was only 11 inches in diameter at the top.
At the time the picture was taken, it was only his third time up that year and he declined to do some of his more difficult feats until he had more practice.
Johnson and a number of other competitive loggers were at the motor inn for a week for their spring training session.
