Let’s head back to the May 1965 pages of the Optimist when the Delta Community Band played its first concert.
The band had invited Delta organizations to send representatives to a rehearsal to learn the progress of the group which started late 1964.
“The audience was surprised by the kind of music and some representatives reported favourably to their organizations,” the Optimist story noted.
Donations had already been coming to the band including from the Westham Island Service Circle and municipal council.
The band’s first public appearance would be at the upcoming May Days at Memorial Park. Plans were also underway for the Delta Community Band to play evening concerts during the summer.
It was also noted the band still needed more musicians and instruments.
President of the band association was Ken Featherston with Larry Brown was vice-president.
