Let’s go back to August 1971 when a new business in Ladner Village, Ladner Harbour Fisheries, opened at the corner of Elliot and Chisholm streets.

The wholesale and retail business owned one, 40-foot troll and packing boat and had 10 troll boats working exclusively for the company, catching salmon in the summer and cod in the winter.

Owner Ted Lloyd was a former manager of the Ladner Super-Valu and at the time owned Patio Restaurant in North Delta.

Lloyd said he was planning to add a smokehouse for the operation.

Manager Wayne Duncan said providing the retail outlet in the wholesale operation made it possible to sell fish that was fresh daily, adding, “Sometime I have trouble cutting it on the table because it’s so fresh.”
