Throwback: Delta's Town & Country Inn

The hotel and restaurant complex was a popular hub in Delta

Its central location and meeting rooms made the hotel a community hub for decades

Let’s take a step back to the late 1960s and visit the new Delta Town & Country Inn.

The hotel played host to countless guests and functions for over five decades.

The hotel at the junction of highways 17A and 99 was torn down three years ago to eventually make way for a new casino/hotel complex.

Peter Toigo purchased the hotel in the early 1980s and the site remained under the family’s ownership, now leasing it to the new uses.

In a 2018 Delta Optimist story about the last days of the hotel and restaurant, it was noted that what made them so special for so many had been its employees, many of whom have worked there for over 20, 30 and even 40 years.

Owner Ron Toigo at the time said it was also a Delta hub thanks to its valuable meeting rooms and central location.

“Every political meeting that I ever recall has taken place there, regardless of whatever political party or stripe you’re talking about,” Toigo said. “The staff has always been very good and everybody knew each other. It’s got a lot of history for this area.”

Gateway’s Cascades Casino Delta celebrated its grand opening at the site last September. December 2022 also saw the opening of the 124-room adjoining hotel, Delta Hotels by Marriott - Vancouver Delta.
