Let’s head back to May 1960 when a new drug store celebrated its grand opening at the Tsawwassen Shopping Centre.
Offering opening day prizes, Dennis Drugs owner Neil Dennis was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Dennis. He went to school in East Delta where he met his future wife, Shirley Bell, while they were in elementary school.
He said they were high school sweethearts in Ladner High School.
He left to join the RCAF as soon as he turned 18. He trained in Alberta and won his wings in 1942, and went to England where he was stationed until the end of the war.
He married Ms. Bell at Ladner United Church and then went to UBC, graduating as a druggist in 1953. The couple had one child, five-year old Leonard, when they opened their new business in Tsawwassen.
The new pharmacy was open until 9 p.m. daily.
