Library patrons in Delta and across the Fraser Valley Regional Library system will see improvements in their local public libraries thanks to a funding grant from the province.
The provincial government has announced a one-time investment of $8 million in COVID-19 relief and recovery funding for 71 public libraries, six library federations and three library service partners.
B.C. Libraries can use this new funding to enhance services for people and fill gaps created by the pandemic.
The Fraser Valley Regional Library is receiving approximately $220,000 in funding which will be used to expand digital collections and internet access, upgrade spaces and programming, and improve air circulation.
“The Fraser Valley Regional Library is an important resource for communities to remain connected with literature, learning and events,” said Delta North NDP MLA Ravi Kahlon. “With investments in new digital and internet resources, we are ensuring libraries remain focal points of literacy and support for people.”
Mike Gagel, president, British Columbia Library Trustees Association says this one-time funding boost in funding will have a significant, positive impact on the ability of public libraries to improve access to all types of library resources, services and programs, with the goal of building resilient communities.
“With extra funding, public libraries can provide services that put people first, enabling B.C. citizens to build skills that help build economies and make life more affordable,” he said.
