The City of Delta will once again be paying more to belong to the Fraser Valley Regional Library system.

Delta council has approved a staff recommendation that will see Delta’s library costs increase by 2.27 per cent, which works out to $86,716. Delta’s total annual cost for library services is now more than $3.9 million.

The FVRL establishes an annual budget for the provision of library services to its 15 member jurisdictions. Each member municipality is charged a levy to cover operating costs of the library branches and central administration.

Delta's total contribution to the FVRL in 2010 was just over $2.9 million.

Delta has libraries in Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta. As far as the future of the George Mackie branch in North Delta, which was described at council as having many inadequacies, it will be referred to the next business planning workshop.
