The South Delta Probus Club is welcoming a documentary filmmaker next week who risked her life to share the untold stories of women in Afghanistan.

The South Delta Probus Club is welcoming a documentary filmmaker next week who risked her life to share the untold stories of women in Afghanistan.

The club's January meeting features Alison MacLean, who has made four trips to Afghanistan as a combat cameraperson.

She started her career behind the camera with TSN, where she shot many high profile events, including the Olympics, World Series and Formula 1 car racing.

In 2010, MacLean launched Tomboy Digital Productions and went to Afghanistan as an embedded filmmaker with the Canadian Forces. The result was her first documentary, Outside the Wire, which explored the role of women in the Canadian Forces mission there.

At the Probus meeting, MacLean will talk about her latest project, Burkas 2 Bullets, which looks at female police officers in Afghanistan.

The meeting, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at the Coast Tsawwassen Inn, is free and open to all Delta residents.

Probus is a worldwide association of active retirees. The South Delta Probus Club offers the opportunity to learn from speakers and allows members to enjoy fellowship and activities.
