A new high-visibility Delta Police team to deal with the increase in gang violence has been busy, with a number of contacts with confirmed gang members and associates.
According to DPD, officers in this new unit are targeting individuals with previous negative police contacts and/or violent history.
Here are highlights from May 19-22:
• 15 people arrested over the four-day period, primarily under Motor Vehicle Act and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
• Two prohibited drivers stopped, both facing new prohibited driving charges. One driver linked to a gang active in the current conflict.
• One large sword seized. Driver well known to police.
• One teen driver fled into oncoming traffic, when police tried to stop him. No pursuit, but his father (registered owner) ended up with more than $1,000 in violation tickets thanks to his son’s driving.
