A revised application has surfaced to build a new Tim Hortons drive-thru restaurant in East Ladner.
On Monday council will discuss a staff recommendation to waive the six-month period for defeated development applications in order to revisit the Tim Hortons proposal that was shot down in February.
In a 4-3 vote, council had rejected the application that had been originally submitted a couple of years earlier and had gone through a few revisions.
Southborough Investments Ltd. was hoping to build the small restaurant with a drive-thru on a vacant lot adjacent to the Otter Co-Op gas station on Ladner Trunk Road at 64th Street.
The applicant, Ladner resident David Longpre, told council at an earlier public hearing the proposal was for a very small restaurant (1,340 square feet) compared to a typical Tim Hortons (2,700 to 3,000 square feet). The design would have also reduced the time a vehicle spends in drive-thru lane.
A raised median would have been added to prevent drivers on Ladner Trunk Road from making a left turn into the drive-thru.
However, the proximity to a neighbouring home was the biggest factor for those on council who voted against the application.
The new proposal would see a higher sound attenuation fence between the site and residential properties. The other change would see the proposed hours of operation change from 24 hours to 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
A two-thirds majority vote of council is needed to waive the six-month waiting period.
