The next phase of the road improvement project takes place from 115 Street to Scott Road.

Construction starts this September on the next phase of a major roadway upgrade project in North Delta.

The city has issued notification to residents that commuters can expect traffic delays during the second phase of the 72 Avenue Road Improvements Project, which will take place between 115 Street and Scott Road.

To minimize impacts, some of the works will be undertaken at night.

The project will include road widening on 72nd Avenue to four lanes, bus stop and sidewalk upgrades, new LED street lighting, a new traffic signal at 118 Street, as well as signalized U-turns at 116 Street and Nicholson Road.

Originally having an estimated cost of just under $7 million, with some funding coming from TransLink, the project is to be completed by winter of 2025.

The now completed first phase of the 72 Avenue Road Improvements Project, between Westview Drive and 115th Street, consisted of the relocation of the curb, gutter and sidewalks, road widening as well as new street lighting along the corridor.

There are also new traffic signals, in addition to drainage improvements and a concrete median island along the centre of the avenue.

The project also includes rehabilitation of the existing parking lot at Heath Elementary, including landscaping and installation of a rain garden. The parking lot improvements were funded by the school district.
