Delta-Richmond East MP Kerry-Lynne Findlay was on hand for a second federal funding announcement in Delta last Friday, this one at the Delta Sport Development Centre.

The Delta Gymnastics Society was the beneficiary of a federal grant that helped construct an elevator at the Ladner facility.

The society, which raised hundreds of thousands toward the construction of the three-year-old centre but didn't have enough for the lift at the time, also paid half the $60,000 price tag.

"Our government is pleased to support so many excellent projects like this one at the Delta Sport Development Centre," said Findlay, minister of national revenue. "Families and communities in Delta will benefit from this project, which has boosted economic activity, and has provided a modernized community facility for future generations."

Findlay said it's important to not only help fund new projects but also upgrades to existing infrastructure.

Remembering the gymnastics society's humble beginnings in a church, Coun. Bruce McDonald spoke highly of the organization, which now has over 4,000 program participants annually.

Also on hand at the brief ribbon cutting ceremony were Delta South MLA Vicki Huntington, the society's Carlene Lewall and others from the organization.
