Fourteen Delta schools are starting the week on Fraser Health’s list of schools that have had recent COVID-19 exposures.

According to the list updated Monday morning on the health region’s website, Pinewood Elementary had exposures events May 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12 and 13.

The Optimist has learned that the school community received two separate general notifications last week, involving two separate classes.

Parents in one of the classes were notified in a follow-up that their children had to isolate for 14 days from the last date of exposure and parents in the second class also had a follow-up notification instructing them to do the same.

On the weekend, the school community received a third general notification of an exposure event, which turned out to involve the second class.

Some of the parents in that second class received another follow-up notification, instructing them to isolate their children for even longer.

As of Monday afternoon, the health region hadn’t issued a notification to parents of the school community whether the multiple exposure situation at Pinewood is considered a cluster or an outbreak.

The other schools on the FHA list include Brooke Elementary (May 11, 12), Burnsview Secondary (May 3, 4, 5, 6, 10), Chalmers Elementary (May 6, 7), Cougar Canyon Elementary (May 4, 5), Delview Secondary (May 3, 5, 12), Gibson Elementary (May 3, 4, 5, 11), Jarvis Elementary (May 3), North Delta Secondary (May 3, 4, 6, 11), Richardson Elementary (May 3, 4, 5, 6, 7), Sands Secondary (May 10, 13), Seaquam (May 10, 13), Sunshine Hills Elementary (May 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) and Southpointe Academy (May 10, 11), which is the only South Delta school on the list.
