Food waste collection is gaining momentum

Another three municipalities in Metro Vancouver are launching curbside collection of food scraps.

Another three municipalities in Metro Vancouver are launching curbside collection of food scraps.

As of May 1, residents of single-family homes in the City of North Vancouver, the District of North Vancouver and the District of West Vancouver will be able to recycle their food waste.

On April 16, Delta began the weekly collection of combined food waste and yard trimmings for single-family homes.

By October, this waste reduction initiative will be in place in a total of 16 Metro Vancouver municipalities.

"Food is a resource that we can recycle into highquality soil or use to generate energy," said Metro board chair Greg Moore.

"Curbside collection programs being introduced across the region will divert this valuable resource away from disposal. Let's keep food out of the garbage."
