Ladner's Harry Fredeman got a taste of hockey and life in the Baltics as part of holiday season tour with the Trinity Western University men's hockey team.

The Spartans visited Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia as part of their 11-day ministry and humanitarian trip that included three games, conducting clinics and working with youth ministries at local churches.

"We want to help them continue to develop the sport in their country," explained TWU head coach Barret Kropf said. "We (wanted) them understand what we're about as a hockey team and the things that we do to provide leadership on and off the ice."

The Spartans finished the trip with a 3-0 record, including wins against HC Baltica (4-2) and Latvia's HK Venta (6-3) with Fredeman in net.

TWU (9-0-11) resumes its conference schedule Jan. 16 when it hosts Simon Fraser at the Langley Events Centre.

Fredeman is in his second year at the Langley school after an outstanding career in the Pacific International Junior Hockey League.

The 22-year-old was part of a terrific group of goalies who came through the South Delta Minor Hockey system that included Sean Bonar (Princeton University) and Luke Siemens (University of Alberta).
