South Delta artists Dennis Walsh and Rod Winning will have their work on display next week at Gallery 1710 in Tsawwassen.

In addition to checking out the exhibit, titled Surprise!, visitors can create their own piece with the Guest Art Challenge.

"Everybody who comes in here, we're going to ask them to paint a painting. We'll give them materials they need, brushes, paints ... pictures for inspiration," says Winning.

The winner or winners of the juried challenge will get a prize.

Walsh and Winning met through the South Delta Artists Guild. Walsh says the guild's members are supportive while Winning notes artists can go there to learn.

Their art is "quite different.

Totally opposite," says Winning, who paints South Coast scenes. Walsh has described his work as "a free expression."

The opening reception, with music and food, is set for Thursday, Jan. 30 from 7 to 10 p.m. Surprise! runs from Jan. 28 to Feb. 4 at Gallery 1710, 1710-56th St., Tsawwassen (adjacent to the South Delta Recreation Centre). Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day. Walsh and Winning are looking for more entertainers to perform during the run of the show.
