I have the honour of being the President of the Delta Pride Society.
It has been two years since the last time we had the privilege of being included in the Optimist’s Pride edition; two years where life was in turmoil and full of sorrow and anxiety.
It is bittersweet that we can celebrate Pride in person again; we are lucky to have our daily cases of COVID-19 falling and falling drastically, due to these wonderful vaccines which may give us the opportunity to celebrate the Pride Picnic once again in person.
However, one cannot ignore the sickness, sorrow, and death from this pandemic, as well as the horrors of the recently confirmed evidence of the remains of the many missing children on the grounds of the various former residential schools. These sorrows and horrors must not be overlooked or forgotten.
This year’s celebration will be much subdued, and appropriately so, in my opinion.
However, I think we can all use something positive to look forward to, and with the help of the Delta Pride Society board members; Lydia Elder and Christa Horita Kadach, as well as our wonderful sponsors, fundraisers, volunteers and this wonderful community at large, we will once again gather on the grounds of Ladner Memorial Park and celebrate life, love, and Pride, together again.
Thank you very much for your kind attention.
