Hillary Schneider runs the Epona Rise Retreat Centre in Ladner.

Hillary Schneider will be introducing people to what she does at her retreat centre in Ladner tomorrow. She runs Epona Rise Retreat Centre, where in partnership with horses, she helps people with personal growth, empowerment and healing.

"I think it is a newer field and a newer modality that people aren't aware of," she said.

There are a variety of different exercises that are done with the horses, she said, adding the animals aren't tools but "co-facilitators."

Horses respond to what's happening to a person internally and react to that, she said.

"It gives people a really good glimpse of what's happening with them. A lot of us don't realize we walk around wearing masks all the time. We're so disconnected with what's happening internally," she said.

"The horses see beyond that."

Schneider said she works with women in transition who are looking to find clarity on what's next for them and recently started helping people with addictions.

"Youth empowerment is another area I'm passionate about."

Tomorrow's event goes from 10 a.m. to noon at the retreat centre, 2975-53rd St., Ladner. The cost is $25. More information can be found at epona-rise-retreats. com.

A free open house is planned for Nov. 3.
