The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) continues to investigate an officer-involved shooting in Langley.

Information provided by the Delta Police Department indicates that on Oct. 7 at approximately 6:20 p.m., Delta officers were conducting an investigation near 200 Street and 24 Avenue.

“While attempting to arrest two men related to the investigation, shots were fired by police which struck one of the men,” said the IIO in a news release. “Both men sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the interaction and were transported to a local area hospital for treatment.”

DPD spokesperson Cris Leykauf said the RCMP has now taken conduct of the DPD investigation regarding the two men and this investigation will run concurrent to the IIO investigation.

“As the IIO and RCMP are now the lead agencies in these investigations, the Delta Police will not be commenting any further on this matter,” added Leykauf.

The IIO is asking any person who saw, heard or recorded the arrest of the man to contact the IIO Witness Line toll free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
