Ladner Tennis club to open another season on Sunday

The Ladner Tennis Club has a long and proud history as a non-profit association in South Delta. Since 1976 the club has been active at Hawthorne Park with membership ranging between 60 and 100 players.

Since 1976 the club has been active at Hawthorne Park with membership ranging between 60 and 100 players.

"Today's members are a nice mix of youth and adult aged players with a full range of skill levels. Also, we have made several improvements at the club in recent years which has enhanced the enjoyment of the game," says Gurdip Grewal, a longtime Ladner resident and member for 30 years.

Returning members and interested tennis enthusiasts are invited to opening day on Sunday, April 29 from noon to 4 p.m. Snacks will be provided. Those attending are advised to bring their rackets.

The club's regular hours are: Tuesday and Thursday, 6 to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The club's season runs from April to September.

Amenities at Hawthorne Park include four courts, privacy/wind screening, a ball machine and lighting for evening play. The club also has a certified instructor available for private lessons.

The tennis club hosts several events, including Club Nite Play and a Challenge Ladder for all levels, Club Championships and barbecue nights.

Annual membership is $40 for students/juniors and $80 for adults.
