Let’s head back to 1949.
The above photograph postcard of Ladner is a shot looking north over Chillukthan Slough.
Elliott Street and the bridge to River Road are in the foreground with the Community Hall and government wharf on the left at the corner of Elliott and Chisholm Streets.
Fishing boats can also be seen in the slough.
The piles marking the Delta Cannery site are also visible on the east side of the slough.
The entire area would be in for a lot of rapid change a decade later with the opening of the Deas Island Tunnel.
