The Ladner Legion is getting help from the City of Delta amid the province’s COVID-19 indoor dining closure order.
Council this week approved a request from the legion branch on Delta Street to erect a permanent structure over its patio area for the next five years.
Given the desire to provide a high quality dining experience and the level of investment required to construct an enclosed awning structure, the Ladner Legion was seeking a long-term licence to occupy the area.
A report to council notes the legion plans to construct a permanent structure with awnings and retractable curtains over the encroachment area, which requires a building permit.
The licence is consistent with what has been given to another restaurant in Ladner Village, while the licence template is to be used for other requests going forward for patio installations.
To further help restaurants, pubs and cafés, council this week also agreed on a process for expedited sidewalk patio permits and to wave all sidewalk patio licence fees, as well as application fees, for patio building permits and changes to liquor licences for the rest of 2021.
Council last fall approved a motion to extend the expanded patio program indefinitely.
