More trouble for Delta teacher

Police announce Robin Wait is now facing four charges stemming from a pair of alleged sexual assaults

Delta police Thursday released the name of the Delta Secondary teacher who is now facing charges in connection with a pair of alleged sexual assaults.

Robin Wait, 43, is facing two charges of sexual interference of a person under 16 and two counts of sexual assault stemming from a Nov. 4 incident as well as one that occurred in May.

Police were called to the Ladner high school Nov. 4 after a young girl reported she had been assaulted by an unknown adult near the school gym.

After launching an investigation into the allegation, police arrested Wait on Nov. 6.

Police spokesperson Const. Ciaran Feenan said the earlier incident, which prompted the second set of charges, came to light during the initial investigation.

Wait has been released on bail on a number of conditions, including no contact with the victims or any witnesses, and that he not seek, obtain or continue any employment, or volunteer, in a capacity that involves being in a position of trust or authority of anyone under the age of 16.

The teacher was immediately suspended with pay upon his arrest, said Delta school district spokesperson Deneka Michaud.

She said his suspension would be reviewed as the case progresses. Michaud also said the district would launch an investigation once given police approval.
