The NDP has chosen its candidate for the riding of Delta South for October’s provincial election.
In a news release, the provincial NDP announced Thursday night that Jason McCormick is their candidate.
According to the release, McCormick is a driver for TransLink and community leader, and is extremely active in the BC cycling community and the South Delta Basketball Association.
“In Delta South, our community is facing real challenges. We need a government that is ready to take those challenges on. That’s David Eby’s BC NDP,” said McCormick. “John Rustad’s Conservatives have promised to tear up our housing plan. They’re promised to cut our health care, and they won’t properly fund public transit. With them, we’ll pay more and get less. We can’t afford the risk.”
McCormick joins incumbent BC United MLA Ian Paton as the now two confirmed candidates for the riding.
The Conservative Party, in an email to the Optimist, said they are nearing closer to choosing its candidate, as are the Green Party, who said an announcement is expected by the end of August for both Delta South and Delta North.
Speaking of Delta North, currently there are three candidates in place.
Amrit Pal Singh Dhot, will run for BC United. Raj Veauli also announced his candidacy for the Conservative Party of B.C. and NDP veteran and Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon is seeking a third term in the legislature.
