The City of Delta has begun gathering public feedback on big changes proposed for a popular North Delta park.

The Annieville Lions Park Master Plan currently has two conceptual design options, aimed at meeting the needs of the growing community and upgrading the park's existing amenities.

The city notes that it intends on prioritizing retaining existing trees, as well as improve accessibility, connections and wayfinding.

One of the conceptual plans include, among other features, creating a central park hub near Annieville Elementary that has a new multi-use games area/sports court, play plaza, spray park and washroom/fieldhouse with covered seating.

The plan also includes a new location for the picnic shelter, reconfiguring the parking lot to improve space efficiency, traffic calming and stormwater management.

The other conceptual plan includes creating a central park hub in the heart of the park.

The park is the result of a dedicated group of residents, the Annieville and District Playground Association, who purchased an eight-acre parcel of land in 1949.

The land was eventually cleared of brush and trees and underwent a number of improvements before it was turned over to the municipality in 1958.

The association continued to raise funds for landscaping and equipment until the group disbanded in 1970.

The park has benefited from additions over the years, thanks to the fundraising efforts of others over the years including the North Delta Lions Club.
