The school district will replace the two playground sections at Health Elementary with new, universally accessible playground equipment.

The Delta School District has issued a request for proposal for new playground equipment at Heath Elementary School.

The district is looking for designs that provide a focus on universal design, which aims to create an inclusive and accessible playground concept.

The school district has also recently issued a request for proposals to renovate the existing space at Heath to accommodate an elevator.

The government recently announced the district will receive a total of $1,545,000 for upgrades and for new playground equipment.

Costing $195,000, the accessible playground equipment is funded under the Playground Equipment Program.

The provincial funding will also be directed to projects under the School Enhancement Program for interior construction upgrades at Heath and Sunshine Hills Elementary, as well as electrical upgrades at Port Guichon Elementary. Port Guichon is also getting upgrades under the Carbon Neutral Capital Program.

The school district last December celebrated the grand opening of a new universally accessible playground at Richardson Elementary, a project made possible with a previous $165,000 provincial grant. Jarvis Elementary received funding for a new playground the year prior.
