The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest.
Feb. 19, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported that they clicked on a Facebook ad and was contacted by an investment company. Using their credit card, the complainant then invested $250 USD in the company. Subsequently the complainant found they had been scammed and the company was fraudulent. The complaint cancelled their credit card and was advised by police to cease all communication with the scammer.
Feb. 19, 9300 Block of 116th Street: Complainant reported an Amazon package valued at $100 was stolen from their front patio. The investigation was to continue upon receipt of surveillance video.
Feb. 20, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported that they received a text stating their debit card was downloaded into their digital wallet, which they do not have, and was asked to contact the fraud department of the bank at the phone number provided. The complainant called the number and provided sensitive information and was told their account would be put on hold to be investigated. Later the complainant received a call from their actual bank indicating $5,000 had been transferred from their account. A fraud investigation was started by the bank. Police gave the complainant information on protecting themselves from fraud.
Feb. 20, 7300 Block of 120th Street: The Loss Prevention Officer (LPO) at a business reported they had confronted a male who had concealed items inside his jacket. The LPO followed the suspect to other stores and were met by police who arrested the suspect. The concealed items were located including a pair of running shoes from another business. Stolen items were returned to the various businesses, and the suspect was released without charges as requested by the businesses. The suspect was released with a civil ban from the businesses.
Feb. 20 1200 Block of Derwent Way: Police received a report of a theft of more than $20,000 in custom fabricated control valves and assorted power tools. Police attended the business and obtained surveillance video and were advised the suspects had cut the lock on a shipping container and stolen the items within. The investigation was to continue upon examination of the surveillance video.
Feb. 21, 11900 Block of 88th Avenue: Police received a report of the theft of a Black Jetson E-bike valued at $250. The bike was left outside a building with its chain removed. When the complainant returned, the bike was gone. No surveillance video was available.
Feb. 25, 11700 Block of 64th Avenue: Complainant reported that their catalytic converter was stolen sometime during the night. Police attended, and examined surveillance video which showed a black SUV style vehicle with silver rims reversed into the driveway, where a suspect went under the vehicle and left two minutes later. Police were unable to determine the license plate number, make or model of suspect vehicle from the surveillance video.
