The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. October 11, 11700 Block of 82A Avenue: Complainant reported their grey 2000 Subaru Impreza was stolen sometime overnight from in front of their residence. All keys were accounted for, and the vehicle was locked. Information regarding the stolen vehicle was entered in the Canadian Police Information Centre.

October 11, PSB 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant advised police they had received a text message from an unknown number claiming to be ICBC requesting they call the number provided. The complainant phoned the number and provided personal banking information. A total of $1,344 was transferred from the complainant’s accounts. The complainant realized they were the victim of fraud when the person they contacted changed their personal information in their accounts. ICBC was contacted and indicated the money transfers would be put on hold, and they would investigate.  The complainant froze all other accounts, cancelled credit cards, and contacted Equifax and TransUnion.

October 13, PSB 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported they had been contacted via email by a person requesting $1,000 in gift cards. The complainant provided their phone number and received a text message from the suspect. The complainant sent five $200 Apple give card codes before they realized they were the victim of fraud.  Attempts to call the suspect proved negative. Apple advised the gift cards had already been used. 

October 13, 7800 Block of 116th Street: Police observed a vehicle driving at a low speed leaving a residence where reports had been received of a house party. Police stopped the vehicle which was travelling well below the speed limit and requested breath samples of the driver. Two breath samples were provided with both reading “Fail”. As a result, the driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, a 30-day vehicle impoundment. The vehicle was towed from the scene, and the driver and passengers left the area in an Uber.

October 14, 22900 Block of Chalmers Place: Complainant reported an unknown suspect had thrown three rocks at their vehicle breaking the rear and passenger side windows.Police attended and canvassed the neighbourhood for possible surveillance video with negative results. There was nothing suitable for identification services.
