The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. *May 30, 8600 Block Byron Road: Complainant reported a package containing $60 in appliance parts was stolen 10 minutes after delivery to their door. Surveillance video revealed a female carrying a blue bag labeled “GLAM” and wearing a black mask, arriving in a black sedan stealing the parcel. Still pictures of the female to be disseminated for possible identification.
*May 31, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported they received a call advising “Telus” was giving them back money and to click on a link. They followed the link and provided personal financial information. Subsequently $750 in gift card charges were place on the complainant’s bank account. When the complainant realized they were the victim of fraud, their bank account was frozen, and they are now attempting to have the bank cover the loss. Incident still under investigation.
*May 31, Alex Fraser Bridge: Police stopped a vehicle travelling at 130 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. The driver was charged with travelling at an excessive speed and their vehicle impounded. Driver arranged their own transportation from the area.
*June 1, 11800 Block of 80th Avenue: Complainant reported their vehicle stolen from their cousin’s residence. Police attended and were provided with photos of the vehicle and surveillance video showing a male breaking into the vehicle and driving it off the property. Video not suitable for identification as the suspect was wearing a mask. Further canvass of the neighbourhood for surveillance video proved negative.
*June 1, 1200 Block of Derwent Way: Police conducted a stop of three individuals riding bikes and speeding away from a commercial property. Police found a location on the property where a lock was freshly cut off a container housing electrical equipment. The three were arrested and released at the scene to proceed by way of warrant.
*June 2, 6300 Block of 109A Street: Complainant reported the catalytic converter stolen, sometime overnight, from their vehicle. Police attended and canvased the neighbourhood for surveillance video with negative results. Complainant provided with a file number and advised to contact ICBC.
