The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. *Dec. 25, 10:09 p.m., 86th Ave. and Scott Road: Police responded to a two-vehicle collision. Delta Fire Department and BCEHS were already on scene. Police attended and learned neither of the drivers’ sustained injuries and both declined medical attention. A grey Dodge van was travelling southbound along Scott Road when a white Dodge sedan ran a stop sign travelling westbound along 86th Ave., colliding with the driver side of the van. The van damages were estimated at $10,000, while sedan damages were estimated at $20,000. A violation ticket was issued to the sedan driver for failing to obey a stop sign.
*Dec. 24, 1:17 a.m., 8900 block Highway 17: A driver reported being in a single-vehicle collision. The driver explained he was driving southbound in the left lane when a semi-truck passed him in the slow lane, splashing water onto his vehicle. He could not see the road and hit a concrete barrier. No other vehicle was involved in the collision, and there were no injuries. Damage estimated at $15,000.
*Dec. 23, 3:15 p.m., 9400 block 120th St.: BCEHS advised of a single-car collision. Police attended and located a white Toyota sedan in a snowbank. The lone occupant and driver advised she was cut off by a red 2021 Hyundai Kona. She was unsure if the driver of the Hyundai lost control or did not see her and cut her off, causing her to turn into the snowbank. Road conditions were icy, snowy and wet, with freezing rain throughout the day. The driver was uninjured and left the scene in her Toyota, which was pulled from the snow by a tow truck.
*Dec. 23, 11:02 a.m., Highway 17 at Highway 91 Connector: A complainant advised police that on Dec. 19 at 8 p.m., she was involved in a single-vehicle accident. She had lost control of her car due to heavy snow-fall, and collided with a cement barrier. She was not injured, and her vehicle was driveable at the time, however, she now has realized her vehicle is not driveable, and is suffering from pain from the accident. Police did not attend as report was made four days later. File created for insurance purposes.
*Dec. 22, 10 p.m., 94th Ave. at 116th St.: Police located a collision at 84th Ave. and 116th St. A 2004 Honda Accord was heading westbound on 84th Ave., turned left, northbound onto 116th St., and into a 2015 Dodge Journey. Damage to the front bumper of the Accord is $1,500 and driver’s side and rear bumper of the Dodge Journey $5,000. No injuries reported.
*Dec. 22, 5:10 p.m., 9100 block 116th St.: BCEHS reported a two-vehicle collision. A driver was travelling southbound on 116th St. when she looked down to disengage her parking brake. When she looked back up, the vehicle in front of her was stopped and she collided with it.
*Dec. 22, North Delta Public Safety Building: A complainant attended to file a late report of a catalytic converter theft, which occurred sometime between Dec. 16 and 21 at his residence. No CCTV footage, witnesses or known suspects. No tools or evidence left behind. Reporting for insurance purposes only.
*Dec. 22, 11864 88th Ave.: A complainant reported graffiti in the lobby of their apartment building. The graffiti depicted large male genitalia drawn on the door. No CCTV in the area, but talks are ongoing with the property manager to have CCTV installed. File created for documentation purposes. Male genitalia drawing was removed the following day.
*Dec. 22, 8:11 a.m., 11400 block 83A Ave.: BC Hydro staff filed a late report theft of a hydro meter. The Hydro employee advised that the basement tenant, told Hydro employees on site that she suspected her landlord took the meter because she was overdue on rent. Police attempted to follow up with the tenant, but the tenant appears to have moved out of the residence, does not answer her phone, and has not responded to voicemail messages. New hydro meter already installed by BC Hydro. No CCTV. No witnesses.
*Dec. 21, 8200 block 92nd Ave.: A complainant reported receiving a bag of feces in the mail. The feces was mailed in a dog-waste bag and wrapped with a bow on top. The package was sent via Canada Post, however, there was no return address.
*Dec. 21, 8600 block 120th St.: A complainant reported to police her business had a string of lights stolen. The LED light string, valued at between $200 and $300 was affixed to the patio railing and was removed somehow (likely cut zap straps). The occurrence was captured on CCTV, which showed at 4:24 a.m. on Dec. 18, a male and female attend and remove the lights. Both suspects were pushing a cart of miscellaneous property and had jackets and toques on concealing their faces. File concluded pending identification.
*Dec. 19, Annieville Place at 114th St.: A complainant contacted police to report that a vehicle collided with a speed bump sign. Police attended the scene and observed tire tracks in the snow leading to the downed sign. It was noted the weather was very snowy, icy, and slippery and the vehicle may have lost control before sliding into the sign. CCTV canvas negative. City Works notified for repair.
*Dec. 19, 6:20 p.m., 9200 block 119A St.: An unknown vehicle struck the fence of a residence and then drove away. Police attended and observed one section of the fence had been knocked over. Photos obtained. Police reviewed CCTV of the incident and obtained a description of the vehicle. Police located the vehicle at a nearby residence and the driver who stated that he had lost control in the snow. He did not remain at the scene as he was nervous and did not know what to do. He returned to the residence and exchanged information with the complainant.
*Dec. 19, 10:34 a.m., Royal Bank Nordel Centre: A complainant reported that she was contacted by the Royal Bank advising an unknown suspect attempted to take over her bank account. No funds were taken and the RBC Fraud section is investigating. The complainant was advised to complete a Transunion report and start a file with the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. No funds lost. RBC conducting an independent investigation.
*Dec. 23: A complainant reported that his debit card had been used for two online purchases. The two transactions were for $630 and $300. The complainant reported the transactions to his bank immediately and got a new bank card. Unknown how the account was compromised.
*Dec. 22, 11700 block Summit Cres.: A complainant reported a theft of beer. She had left a pack of beer for the garbage collectors on the curb with all her garbage. She observed an unknown female approach the pack of beer, empty (dump) all the cans, and take the cans for their recycling value. No actual theft is deemed to have occurred as items were considered discarded curbside.
