The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls Delta police responded to for the week of Dec. 12 to 19. The next Crime Beat will appear the week of Jan. 2.
*Dec. 13, 11:09 a.m., 8000 block River Road: Police received a late report mischief file after a resident noticed a fence line was damaged by a vehicle over the weekend. Police attended and observed a section of the fence along River Road may have been hit, possibly by an impaired driver, as the chain link fence was bent and there was fresh damage to the boulevard. No CCTV or witnesses in the area.
*Dec. 13, 4:38 p.m., 8100 block 120 Street: Police were dispatched to a theft by a store’s Loss Prevention Officer. The unknown suspect had attempted to steal meat and seafood before being approached by staff, where some of the items were surrendered before they left on foot heading northbound on 120 Street.
*Dec. 13, 4:40 p.m., 7800 block 112 Street: Police were dispatched to a report of ongoing damage at McKitrick Park, after a resident counted 67 empty cans of beer littered throughout the park. Police assisted in cleaning up the area and conducted extra patrols overnight.
*Dec. 14, 12:18 p.m., 11500 block 75A Avenue: Police were dispatched to a late report theft of a catalytic converter from a residence overnight. The owner advised they started up their RV, noted a loud, rumbling sound, and took it to a repair shop who advised of the issue and encouraged them to file a police report for insurance purposes.
*Dec. 15, 1:12 a.m., 8600 block Byron Road: Police were dispatched to a distress call after a resident heard someone screaming outside their residence. Police attended and located a person overdosing on illicit drugs, and another attempting CPR. Police administered their duty-issued Narcan which resuscitated them before EHS responded.
*Dec. 16, 10:50 a.m., 11600 block Summit Crescent: Police were dispatched to a reported theft of mail after a package was reportedly stolen from their front doorstep sometime overnight. No CCTV available. Police are urging everyone to take extra precautions with mail delivery over the holidays.
*Dec. 18, 2:45 p.m., Sungod Recreation Centre: Police were dispatched to multiple calls of theft after lockers were broken into. Police spoke with five victims who all reported having their cell phones stolen. The investigation is ongoing.
