The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls Delta police responded to in the previous week:
*Jan. 18, 9:25 a.m., 8000 block 120th Street: A Loss Prevention Officer at a nearby store called police regarding a female they had in custody for suspected theft. Police found that the female had stolen approximately $40 in makeup. The stolen merchandise was recovered and the consequences of future infractions were discussed with the female. The female was released after being informed she was banned from the store.
*Jan. 18, 10:56 a.m., 10700 block 72nd Avenue: Police were conducting mobile speed enforcement westbound when a vehicle drove by at a speed of 123 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone. Police stopped the vehicle and the driver was issued an excessive speeding ticket as well, the vehicle was towed.
*Jan. 19, 1:46 p.m., 10800 block 72nd Avenue: Police were conducting mobile speed enforcement westbound when a vehicle drove by at a speed of 121 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. The driver was issued a ticket as well, the vehicle was towed. The driver got a written warning for not having his “N” visible as well as having too many people in the car.
*Jan. 19, 6:59 p.m., 8400 block Brooke Road: Police were working pro-active patrols in the area when they observed a vehicle travelling eastbound at a high rate of speed and swerving over double solid lines. The vehicle made a sudden stop pulling to the curb. Police conducted a traffic stop and the driver stepped out of the vehicle and attempted to walk away. Police instructed the driver to return to the vehicle and notified the driver for the reason of the traffic stop was to check for sobriety. Police read the Approved Screening Device demand and performed the test twice which both resulted in fails. The male was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition as well as the vehicle being towed.
*Jan. 21, 5:13 p.m., 108th Street: Complainant reported that her son had been approached by an unknown male who offered to sell him drugs on his way home from school. Police contacted the mom and advised that they would notify the School Liaison Officer and perform future patrols of the area during after school hours. The mom will also notify the police if her son comes in contact with the individual again.
*Jan. 21, 8:53 p.m., 10000 block 120th Street: Police noticed a vehicle that was unoccupied and running on the side of the road. The vehicle left westbound and swerved multiple times before eventually heading northbound on 120th St. driving 90km/h in a 60km/h zone. A traffic stop was initiated and a distinct odour of liquor was detected, as well as slurred speech. An Approved Screening Device demand was read and the male provided two samples resulting in fails. The male was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition as well as the vehicle being towed.
*Jan. 22, 9:15 p.m., 9000 block 119th Street: Dispatch received an abandoned 911 call from a nearby location. Police attended and spoke to the female who advised she and her two friends had been playing “hot potato” and had dialled 911 by accident.
