The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls Delta police responded to for the week of June 6 to 14:
*June 10, 07:50 a.m., 10,000 Block Nordel Court: Complainant reported that sometime between the afternoon of June 5 and the evening of June 10 locks on three units at a storage facility were cut. Owners of the units were contacted to identify anything missing. CCTV review revealed that two suspects were seen accessing the premises through a small hole in the south fence at 02:43 a.m. on June 9. Items observed to have been touched by the suspects on the CCTV were seized for forensic analysis.
*June 10, 8:04 a.m., 10,000 Block of 74th Avenue: Complainant reported a theft from vehicle while it was parked in front of the residence the night of June 9. Complainant discovered that a messy search had been made of the vehicle. Items stolen totalled approximately $900 and included cash, Ray ban reading glasses, Maui Jim sunglasses and a GPS. A neighbour’s CCTV footage is being forwarded to police for review.
*June 10, 11:25 a.m., 8000 Block of 117A Street: Complainant reported that sometime between May 30 and June 2, one of their vacant rental properties was broken into. Multiple electrical cords were cut from the walls of the residence, which was undergoing an electrical upgrade. The electrician attended the residence and observed all of the electrical wires were cut from the open walls. Police attended and spoke with the complainant who advised the back door was left unlocked. Approximately $3,500 damage.
*June 11, 09:45 a.m., 9000 Block of 119 Street: Complainant reported their pickup truck was stolen from in front of their residence sometime after midnight. Along with the truck and its gas, a camera, GPS, cell phone and tools were taken. Upon canvassing the neighbourhood, a neighbor had witnessed the vehicle being driven off at 3:23 a.m.
*June 11, 8:10 p.m., 11,000 Block of 78 Avenue: Complainant reported an abandoned, insecure vehicle with no license plates on the street in front of their home. Police attended and observed the vehicle which had been reported stolen from Surrey two days earlier. The vehicle had been stripped of the catalytic converter, battery and spare tire and had possible minor fire/heat damage. High quality video footage of the vehicle showed two males leaving the scene at approximately noon on June 9 and leaving in a taxi. Vehicle owner was advised of the vehicle recovery.
