Port Metro Vancouver is opening a community office in Ladner this July.

To be located in the Trenant Park Square shopping centre on Ladner Trunk Road, the office, according to the port authority, will be a local space for community members to speak with staff about port operations, initiatives and projects, including the proposed Terminal 2 at Roberts Bank.

"As Canada's busiest

gateway, we strive to minimize the impact of port activities and port related businesses on our local communities, while still ensuring the economic benefits of these activities are achieved locally, regionally and nationally," said Robin Silvester, Port Metro Vancouver's president and CEO. "We are always looking for collaborative opportunities to engage with our community stakeholders and supply chain partners towards achieving this goal.

"Many important port activities are taking place

in Delta, and the new office will be a location where local community members can drop in to get information and provide input that will help Port Metro Vancouver balance growth demands with the need to protect our environment and respect the quality of life of our neighbours," he said.

Mayor Lois Jackson said the new office will be an excellent resource for local residents and businesses to go to learn about port

operations and initiatives, as well as provide input and receive feedback.

With the upcoming environmental assessment process for the proposed T2 container terminal, this office will help to ensure timely and effective communications between

Delta residents and the port, she said.

A date hasn't been announced for the opening, but the port notes the office will be open Wednesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hours may be adjusted based on community interest.

Still undertaking a number of field studies, PMV will likely submit an environmental impact statement to Ottawa for T2 by the end of the year. That will kick off an environmental review, which will go through a lengthy panel process.

T2 is a proposed threeberth container terminal that would provide further capacity to meet a forecasted demand until 2030.
