Questions about Southlands plan

Editor: As time draws close to the public discussion of the Southlands, I have a few questions that raise interest. What is "affordable housing?" The Vancouver Sun mentioned affordable housing for Metro Vancouver at over $800,000.

Editor: As time draws close to the public discussion of the Southlands, I have a few questions that raise interest.

What is "affordable housing?" The Vancouver Sun mentioned affordable housing for Metro Vancouver at over $800,000. Is this the expectation for the public waiting for the Southlands development? Is there a guarantee each dwelling will only have one car so traffic congestion can be kept at a minimum? Will residents of the complex be expected to travel by bicycle to the local shops? What will happen to the local shops predicted for the Southlands and the current ones in Tsawwassen if the Tsawwassen First Nation develops its malls? What will 56th Street look like on a summer weekend when the traffic to Point Roberts lines up with the traffic to the Southlands and along Boundary Bay Road when the traffic for Centennial Beach meets the traffic from the Southlands? The sidewalk along the golf course on 12th Avenue gives good access to the parklands of Centennial.

Perhaps more thought should be given to what seems to be a gift with many strings attached.
