Rethinking Ladner Village

Some of the key themes the city heard was that Delta should be open to all options including the acquisition and/or disposition of key sites to spur revitalization

The village revitalization objectives include adding more residential space to support businesses.

Work is now underway on two separate, but intertwined projects aimed at seeing the revitalization of Ladner Village.

The City of Delta is currently gathering public feedback on the Ladner Waterfront Redevelopment Strategy and Ladner Village Official Community Plan (OCP) update, having retained consultants for both projects.

The waterfront redevelopment strategy includes, among other things, coming up with a new concept for the Delta‑owned former Seven Seas site and Spot on the Water Park.

The OCP review includes a plan for new land use, heights and density allowances within the village as well as renewed design form and character guidelines for future developments.

The city has been looking at things such as lessons learned and best practices for successful revitalization initiatives, barriers and opportunities to revitalization, as well as interests, priorities and concerns.

The city earlier this year heard from stakeholders that current barriers include planning and development uncertainty, lack of commercial viability and costly technical constraints.

Both projects are the result of recommendations by the Ladner Village Renewal Advisory Committee in its final 2020 report to council.
