South Delta Crime Beat: Busy week for thefts at Tsawwassen Mills

Police catch one suspect on a bus, another suspect chased by mall security

Tsawwassen

Jan. 15, 5000 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A business reported a male had selected several pairs of sunglasses valued at $1,700, concealed them in his bag and left the store without offering payment. The suspect was observed boarding a bus. Police located the bus and found the suspect on board. The suspect was arrested for theft under $5,000. A search revealed $700 worth of goods from another business. The suspect was transported to police headquarters, processed, and released on an undertaking to appear in court for a future date.

Jan. 15, 5100 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A business reported a male stole $400 worth of JBL speakers. The suspect left the store using the emergency exit. The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, medium build, and wearing all black. Investigation to continue upon receipt of surveillance video.

Jan. 17, 5000 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A business reported a male had selected $1,500 worth of jackets and left the store without paying. The jackets were recovered while the suspect was being chased by mall security. The suspect is described as having a brown beard, wearing a tan-coloured North Face puff jacket, and carrying a red and black backpack. Still photos from surveillance video will be disseminated for possible identification of the suspect. 

Jan. 18, 5000 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A business reported a male selected $180 worth of goods and left the store without offering payment. The suspect is described as a South Asian male, wearing a green hoodie, black ball cap, grey sweatpants, and carrying a Nike paper bag. Police attended, and examined surveillance video, but found the suspect had kept his face concealed and was not useful for identification of the suspect.

Jan. 21, 5000 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A business reported two males had selected four shirts, and two sweaters valued at $300, and left the store without offering payment.  Surveillance video was provided to police for possible identification.

Ladner

Jan. 16, Police headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant reported they had purchased eight tickets for a sporting event from a website which subsequently was determined to be fraudulent. A total of $1,600 was charged to the complainant’s credit card. The bank has been informed and has cancelled the credit card. 

Jan. 19, Police headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant made an online report advising that their wallet was stolen, and there were multiple fraudulent charges on their bank account. The wallet contained several bank and personal cards. The fraudulent charges were made online to a dating website for a total of $200. The complainant was advised to inform Service Canada and Nexus of the stolen cards. 

Jan. 20, 54th Street & 48B Avenue: During a proactive patrol, police stopped a vehicle which had left a parking lot. The odour of liquor was detected by the officer and the driver provided two breath samples which both read ‘fail.’ Consequently, the driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. The vehicle was towed from the scene and the driver left on foot to walk home.
