South Delta Crime Beat: Irate traveller visits police station to complain about required CBSA COVID test

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls Delta police responded to in the previous week:

Tsawwassen

November 13, 8:00 p.m., 4900 block Weaver Road:  Police were dispatched to a late report of a theft from a vehicle, after a homeowner reported their vehicle was broken into between November 11th and 13th. No damage, and the suspect stole various items valuing approximately $200.

November 17, 7:25 a.m., 4100 block Salish Sea Way: Police were dispatched to a single vehicle collision after a vehicle drove into farmer’s field. Police located suspected contraband in vehicle in plain view, and the driver was treated on scene by paramedics and transported to hospital. The Blood Demand was read, and blood was obtained in hospital. The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired driving and being in possession of a controlled substance.

November 19, 7:30 a.m., 1600blk 56th Street: Police initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle whose owner had an invalid BC driver’s license. Police identified the driver, who had a condition not to occupy the driver’s seat of any motor vehicle, and arrested them without issue before searching the vehicle. Police subsequently located a large amount of suspected drugs and an imitation firearm before transporting them to cells.

November 19, 6:47 p.m., 1 Avenue and 55A Street: Police were dispatched to a collision between a pedestrian and a pickup truck. Police secured the scene and prepped Diefenbaker Park for the Air Ambulance before the victim was transported by ambulance to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, thankfully. The matter remains under investigation.

Ladner

November 14, 5:48 p.m., Delta Police HQ: Police were called to the front counter to speak with a resident objecting to the COVID-19 testing requirements after being randomly selected by CBSA for a COVID-19 test after a short trip to the U.S. Police advised that federal government policy is not a municipal police matter, and that failure to comply may lead to a significant fine.

November 16, 8:30 a.m., (location withheld): Police were advised by an elementary school Vice-Principal about graffiti on the exterior school walls that appeared sometime overnight. Tags written in black marker and white chalk. Police took photos of the tag for the database and encouraged the school to consider installing CCTV.

November 17, 6:00 p.m., (location withheld): Police received a call regarding a suspicious person on the track, after they drove their vehicle onto the turf. Police located the vehicle and driver, who advised that they were training for hockey, and we advised to use the parking lot or street like everyone else to avoid a ticket or tow, as school property is, in fact, private property.
