Tsawwassen
*Jan. 30, 1600 Block of 56th Street: Complainant reported that their vehicle, parked in the lane, had the door lock and ignition tampered with sometime overnight. Vehicle unable to be stolen as the complainant had installed a kill-switch. Approximate damage to the vehicle is $500. No surveillance video or witnesses located.
*Jan. 31, 4900 Block of Canoe Pass Way: During a proactive patrol in an unmarked vehicle, police observed a person exit the liquor store and drive away in their vehicle which failed to make a complete stop or signal as they left the parking lot. Suspicion formed regarding the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle. As a result, the driver provided two breath samples which both read “fail.” A 30-day driving prohibition and a violation ticket were issued. The vehicle was impounded and the driver left the scene in a taxi.
*Feb. 1, HQ 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant attended police headquarters to report they had been the victim of “the grandchild in custody scam.” The complainant provided the suspects with a large sum of money before realizing they were the victim of fraud. Police accompanied the complainant, when they were delivering the rest of the required money to the suspects in order to make an arrest, but the suspects did not show up.
*Feb. 2, 4900 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A business reported that a male and female entered the store and selected a bottle of vodka and then fled from the store without making payment. Patrol of the area by police negative. Investigation to continue upon receipt of surveillance video.
*Feb. 3, 1 Ferry Causeway: Complainant reported their duffle bag was stolen from the ferry luggage collection area. The bag is described as grey and contained a large tarp, two snorkeling sets, various camping gear, and clothing with a total value of $1,200. Police contacted ferry security in order to obtain surveillance video.
*Feb. 5, Point Roberts border crossing: Canada Customs contacted police indicating they were holding an impaired driver. Police attended and the driver provided two breath samples with both reading “fail.” The driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside suspension, a vehicle ticket and the vehicle impounded. The driver was transported to their residence.
Ladner
*Feb. 1, 5300 Block of Aspen Way: Complainant reported they had given their driver’s licence number over the phone to a person posing as a Telus employee before they realized the call was fraudulent. Police advised the complainant to report the incident to ICBC and Equifax. Information was given to the complainant regarding the sophistication of today’s scams.
*Feb. 2, 5500 Block of Maple Crescent: A late report received from a complainant that they had received a call from someone impersonating a Telus employee. Before the complainant realized the call was fraudulent they gave the caller their driver’s license number, address and email address. Equifax informed of the fraud. Complainant advised to be vigilant of any suspicious activity in their personal bank accounts.
*Feb. 2, 5100 Block of 56th Street: The City of Delta reported a vehicle had driven across the field and baseball diamonds at Hawthorne Park sometime overnight. Police attended and noted the damage which is approximately $5,000. Incident still under investigation pending receipt of surveillance video from the nearby elementary school.
*Feb. 3, 4800 Block of Elliot Street: A report received that two males were breaking into the back of a business. Police arrived and located the suspects who were arrested and identified. An examination of surveillance video confirmed one of the males inside the store stealing two e-bikes. Both males transported to Surrey cells. The two bikes, valued at $6,000, were recovered.
*Feb. 3, 3600 Block of Highway 17: A vehicle, travelling at 133 km/hr in an 80 km/hr speed zone was stopped by police. The driver was charged with driving at an excessive speed, served with a ticket, and the vehicle impounded. The driver left the area in an arranged ride.
*Feb. 3, 4900 Block of Chisholm Street: Complainant reported they had entered a business and left their purse containing $375 on a chair. When they went to leave, 10 minutes later, they found the purse was missing. Police attended, but an examination of surveillance video did not reveal the theft. Investigation to continue with the examination of surveillance video of a neighbouring business.
*Feb. 4, 3600 Block of Highway 17: While conducting a stationary laser enforcement, police observed a vehicle travelling at a speed of 174 km/h in a 90 km/h zone. The driver was stopped and queries revealed the driver having other driving related violations. The driver was charged with driving at an excessive speed and the vehicle was impounded. The driver left the area via Uber.
