The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls Delta Police responded to in the previous week:
Tsawwassen and TFN
*Oct. 11, 9:35 p.m., 5500 block of 4 Avenue: Police conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle make two wide right turns and drive over the yellow line twice. Police formed suspicion of impairment and read the driver the Approved Screening Device demand, which led to two breath samples provided, both of which resulted in “FAIL” reading. The driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP), and had their vehicle impounded for 30 days.
*Oct. 12, noon, 7700 block of Beedie Way: A complainant called in a report of a theft of a catalytic converter. It was determined the theft likely occurred sometime the week prior, with a value estimated at around $500.
*Oct. 15, 4600 block of Orca Way: Complainant called in a theft from their vehicle. The owner advised that the vehicle had been left unlocked, and several items were taken with no damage to the vehicle observed.
*Oct. 16, 7:46 p.m., Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal: Police were called regarding a possible impaired driver. Upon arrival, further investigation revealed that the driver was previously prohibited from driving and they were arrested without incident. Once read the Approved Screening Device a breath sample was taken, resulting in a “FAIL” reading. The driver was issued a 90-day (IRP) and documents for violating the driving prohibition. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days and the driver left on foot with a court date in 2022.
*Oct. 16, Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal: Police were dispatched to assist another police agency in an attempt to locate a missing female possible at the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal. Police located the female without issue, and assisted in transporting her to the other agency that was searching for her.
Ladner
*Oct. 14, Highway 99 and Highway 17: Police were dispatched to a reported collision at Hwy. 99 and Hwy. 17. On scene, police arrested the at-fault driver for failing to provide a breath sample after being read the Approved Screening Device and transferred them to police headquarters for booking. The driver was released with a 90-day driving prohibition and a court date for 2022.
*Oct. 15, 1:31 p.m., Delta St. and 47A Ave.: Police were contacted by Delta Fire for traffic control involving a vehicle on fire. The driver reported that the vehicle began making a weird sound, and then a passerby alerted him to the fire. The fire was extinguished by the fire department. Fortunately there were no injuries and nothing suspicious noted.
*Oct. 16, 7200 block of Ladner Trunk Road: Police were dispatched to a late report of a break and enter. Upon clearing the residence, however, police found evidence of squatters on the property, which the owner indicated they were previously aware of.
