South Delta Crime Beat: Owner ticketed for leaving dog in closed vehicle

In a Tsawwassen file, a complainant contacted police with their best re-enactment of “Dude, where’s my car?”

Tsawwassen

*June 13, 4th Avenue & 56th Street: A person riding a bicycle was injured when a driver opened the front door of their parked vehicle and the bicycle collided with the door. The cyclist was transported to the hospital with what was deemed non-life-threatening injuries.  The driver was issued a ticket for opening a vehicle door when unsafe. The vehicle was towed from the scene as the door would not close making the vehicle unsafe to drive. 

*June 13, Police Headquarters 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: The complainant, when reviewing their credit card statement, noticed six fraudulent transactions. They immediately checked their wallet and found their credit card missing. The credit card was cancelled, and the complainant received a full refund. The complainant was unable to provide any details regarding the card including the loss. 

*June 14, 1200 Block of 56th Street: A citizen reported a dog in distress in a closed vehicle left without any ventilation in the parking lot of a business for 45 minutes. Police attended and located the driver who released the dog. The owner appeared to not understand the dangers of leaving the dog in a closed vehicle on a hot day. A Delta bylaw ticket was issued for inadequate ventilation and care of a confined animal.

*June 15, 5200 Block of 5B Street: The complainant reported the theft of the catalytic converter sometime overnight from their parked vehicle. Canvass of the neighbourhood for surveillance video proved negative. Police file number was given for an ICBC claim.

*June 16, 1100 Block of Tsatsu Shores: Complainant reported a rock being removed from a landscaping display outside their apartment. No surveillance video or witnesses.  The estimated value of the rock is $500.

*June 17, 1600 Block of 56th Street: Complainant reported someone was attempting to break into their apartment. Police attended and found contractors working in the common area. Police spoke to other residents who indicated they had not seen any suspicious activity in the area. The complainant agreed they probably heard the contractors and assumed a break-in. 

*June 17, 5000 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A complainant contacted police with their best re-enactment of “Dude, where’s my car?” reporting their mother’s vehicle missing from the mall parking lot. Police attended and the vehicle was located in minutes in the exact place where it was parked earlier.

*June 18, 5000 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A business advised that a group of teens were in the store with one of them trying on a pair of $180 Nike shoes. The group all left at the same time with the shoes and without offering payment. Police attended and located the youths who did not have the shoes, but admitted to having other low-value items they stole. They were issued a civil ban from the mall by security. 

*June 18, 5000 Block of Cliff Drive: Complainant reported that someone threw eggs at their home. Police attended and observed the back of the residence spattered with eggs.  The complainant indicated this was the ninth incident within the past year and a half and similar incidents had also happened to neighbouring homes. No damage to property but the complainant wished a police file for records. Police advised the complainant to speak to the city about the possibility of lighting being installed on a small trail behind the homes affected.

Ladner

*June 16, 5800 Block of Ladner Trunk Road: A complainant observed city Pride banners had been painted over in black. Police conducted an area search for any paint tracks with negative results. Incident still under investigation.

*June 16, Police Headquarters 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: A business reported they observed three fraudulent transactions totaling $8,500 debited to their account. The transactions are believed to have originated from the business responding to a “Phishing” email. Bank account frozen and insurance contacted regarding the fraud. Transaction evidence to be forwarded to police.

*June 16, 5700 block of Ladner Trunk Road: A business reported graffiti on the side of the store. Surveillance video obtained with images of the suspect. Investigation ongoing.

*June 17, 6400 Block of Ladner Trunk Road: A citizen reported observing a Tesla travelling with a driver who appeared to be asleep. Police attended the area and completed patrols without locating the vehicle. No further police action was required pending further information.

*June 17, 6000 Block of Deas Island Road: Report received of an abandoned boat at the rowing club. Police attended and located the boat and through a canvass of the local boater community determined the owner of the boat. The owner, contacted by police, indicated the boat had broken down and they would return and remove the boat.
