South Delta Crime Beat: Several bike thefts reported this week

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. *Aug. 16, 1200 Block of 56th Street: Complainant left their bicycle locked to the bike rack outside of a shop while they were at work. When they returned the bike was gone. Officers attended and reviewed surveillance video, which revealed a male, age 20 to 30, short brown hair, and wearing a pink short-sleeve shirt, shorts, black Vans and carrying a blue backpack, cut the lock and stole the bike. The quality of the video is not suitable for distribution of a still photograph. The bike is described as a grey, Giant 22 Talon, valued at $900. 

*Aug. 17, 5000 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A business reported the theft of $5,000 worth of clothing. Investigation to continue with the examination of surveillance video.

*Aug. 18, 1900 Block of 56th Street: Police attended the area after receiving a complaint of dump trucks disrupting traffic. Three dump trucks were located in the centre boulevard staging for a job. Drivers were given a verbal warning and moved the trucks with no issue.   Police attended the job site and observed an appropriate parking and staging plan in place. The foreman will message the truck drivers and ensure plan is followed.

*Aug. 18, 4900 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A business reported a male entered the store and pocketed several items valued at $100 and left without payment. The suspect fled in an older model Dodge Ram 1500 truck with an “N” on the back. Police patrol of the area proved negative. The suspect is described as Caucasian, 35 years of age, with several tattoos on his arms. Still photos from the surveillance video to be disseminated for possible identification.

*Aug. 14, 6500 Block of Highway 17: Police patrol stopped a vehicle travelling at 130 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The driver was issued a speeding ticket and the vehicle was impounded. The driver was picked up from the area.

*Aug. 15, 5100 Block of 48th Avenue: Report received from complainant that on Aug. 6 their bicycle was stolen from the outdoor pool area. The bicycle is described as a black, 21 speed, skinny frame, no kickstand, with a pouch under the seat containing a reflective vest.  Police attended and canvassed the area for surveillance video with negative results.

*Aug. 15, 7200 Block of Highway 17: Police observed a vehicle approaching at an excessive speed. Radar clocked the vehicle travelling at 130 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was given a ticket for driving at an excessive speed, and the vehicle was impounded. The driver was picked up from the area. 

*Aug. 18, 6900 Block of 72nd Street: A business reported the theft of six “Super Save” propane tanks from the locked storage cage in the back lot of the building area. Three tanks were full and three were empty, with a total value of $1,300. Surveillance video revealed a red sedan in the area. Similar thefts under investigation.
