Feb. 13, 1700 Block of 52nd Street: Police conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle, which failed to obey a yield sign. The driver exhibited symptoms of impairment, and as requested they provided two breath samples, both reading fail. As a result, the driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, a 30-day vehicle impoundment, and a ticket for failing to yield. The vehicle was towed from the scene and the driver left by taxi.
Feb. 13, Police headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant reported they had been the victim of online fraud. They had attempted to secure a viewing of an apartment by e-transferring $1,300 to a rental website. Once the transfer was completed, the complainant found the rental had been removed from the website. The complainant had also sent a copy of their driver’s license and most recent paystub to the rental site. The bank was contacted by the complainant but transfer of funds was already completed. Police advised the complainant to contact Equifax and TransUnion.
Feb. 16, 5000 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A business reported three youths entered the store and concealed a pair of $80 cleats and left the store without offering payment. The employee was informed the youths had left the area by bus. Police attended the Ladner Bus Exchange and located the youths on the bus. The three youths were arrested, and a search found the concealed cleats. The youths were released at the request of the business and the cleats returned to the store.
Feb. 17, 5000 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A business reported a female and male had just stolen a pair of jeans. Police attended and found the offenders leaving the mall. The two were charged with theft and a search revealed the jeans plus a pair of shoes and a sweater with the tags ripped off. The business confirmed the goods were stolen from the store. The parties were released at the scene with an undertaking to appear in court and a ban from the mall.
Feb. 18, 5000 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A business reported three males had selected several clothing items and a backpack valued at $240. A review of surveillance video determined the trio had fled in a waiting vehicle. Police were provided with the license number of the vehicle and contacted the registered owner who indicated two of the males were relatives. All parties re-attended the store and paid for the stolen merchandise. The two were issued a civil ban from the mall and released without charges.
Ladner
Feb. 15, 7200 Block of Brown Street: Complainant reported mischief had occurred to their storage container in a parking lot. Video surveillance revealed two suspects had removed the lock, opened the storage container, looked inside, and left the area. Complainant confirmed nothing was stolen.
Feb. 15, Police headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant reported they were the victim of fraud. They provided personal information to an investment site and had invested $377 via e-transfer. The complainant then received a call from a representative who asked for further investment funds. The complainant did not comply and was then locked out of the site. Calls to the seven phone numbers provided all indicated “out of service.” Police advised the complainant to register with Equifax and TransUnion and to request their banks to monitor any suspicious activity.
Feb. 15, 5800 Block of 60th Avenue: During a roadblock, police stopped a vehicle where an odour of liquor emanated from the driver. The driver provided two breath samples which both read fail. As a result, the driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. The vehicle was towed from the scene and the driver left in a taxi.
Feb. 18, 5000 Block of Hwy 17: Police stopped a vehicle travelling at 129 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The driver was charged with driving at an excessive speed and given a seven-day vehicle impoundment and a speeding ticket. The vehicle was towed from the scene and the driver and passengers left in an Uber.
