Truck carrying excavator strikes Highway 99 overpass in Delta

Highway 99 northbound in Delta has been reduced down to a single lane at this hour after a truck carrying an excavator struck the 112th Street overpass.

“Well, where do I start?” said Delta Police Cst. Ken Usipiuk reflecting what has been a number recent accidents of over height vehicles striking highway overpasses in the Metro Vancouver area. “We’re very fortunate there are no injuries and no other vehicles involved with this overpass being struck and debris coming off of it!”

The initial investigation has determined minor damage to the overpass, and one lane is closed while emergency crews are waiting for a tow truck. Traffic is backed up both north and southbound on Hwy 99. Delta Police is assisting Deas Island RCMP Freeway Patrol.
