Tsawwassen family gathers for Grey Cup game and 50th year

A Tsawwassen family celebrated with a great Grey Cup experience on Sunday

The home team sadly wasn’t in the CFL’s Grey Cup Sunday, but a strong local squad sporting the black and orange were in the stands, celebrating a milestone from half a century ago.

Fifty years ago, David and Barbara Leroy met at a Grey Cup party in Edmonton in 1974, with the game itself taking place in Vancouver at Empire Stadium between the legendary Edmonton Eskimos and the Montreal Alouettes.

They got married and eventually had three daughters and seven grand kids, all of whom, spouses included, were at Sunday’s game in Vancouver.

Some flew in from Calgary to catch the game and many still live in Delta, but all donned the black-and-orange BC Lions garb outfitted by Pacific Advertising in Tsawwassen.

“Our three daughters, their three partners and a combined seven grandchildren made for an excited and noisy group of 15,” said Barbara. “Not only was the game fantastic but a surprise visit from Prince Harry noting his Invictus Games in Vancouver/Whistler 2025 was icing on the cake.”

She added the game was exciting, the crowd was great and everyone was having fun and there wasn't an empty seat in the house.
